Learning A New Language
Dec 11, 2008
Seems We've Had To Go Through A Crash Course In New Languages Over The Past Months. At Least That's The Way It Appears In Real Estate Markets.
The public, and many real Pros, have had to learn and get used to almost a new language over recent months. When it comes to discussions about the economy, investments, portfolios, credit, and real estate, new terms and words we haven't heard for many years are cropping up in almost every discussion.
New Nouns.
The English teacher we had years, even decades, ago would be happy that we're getting more acquainted with parts of speech. New Nouns used often today include failures, down markets, credit crunch, meltdowns, bailouts, takeovers, seized assets, relative strength and many, many more. What do these words now mean to you? Have they worked their way into your daily speech?
Verbs And Modifiers We Now Often Hear. Have you found that you've gotten a whole new set of action verbs and modifiers that you and others seem to regularly use? Such as plunge, going bust, falling, loosing, shutting down, cheating, short selling, reeling, sound, permanent decline, safe and hazardous. just to name a few.
The News Is Full Of These Words And Many, Many More That Now Are A Regular Part Of Our Speech.
And, even amounts of money or worth have shifted. Wasn't too long ago when a million bucks was a great deal of money. Today, you can be a millionaire and still be broke. The "B" (billion) word is being regularly replaced by the scary "T" (trillion) word. What's it all mean? Where's it all going?
